NTV anchor Larry Madowo has terminated his contract with the Daily Nation newspaper. This is following a clash with his bosses, after which Madowo took to Twitter to make the announcement.
He states that he had terminated his four-year contract to write for the #FrontRow column in the paper last week. The column usually runs in the Wednesday edition of the Daily Nation, The events preceding his contract termination is a refusal by his bosses to publish an opinion piece Madowo had written for his #FrontRow column. Expressing his dissatisfaction with the move, Madowo went ahead and shared a link to the same story after the CNN took it up.
The #FrontRow column was allegedly discontinued after Madowo confronted his bosses for threatening to do away with it after his writing an opinion piece critical of the leadership style of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
In the said piece that was later published by CNN, Madowo talks about the crackdown on media houses as well as the intimidation of journalists in the country.
Furthermore, the article’s publishing came during the period that the government had forcibly shut down TV stations including KTN News, Citizen TV and NTV for defying a government order not to cover the NASA live event of swearing-in Raila Odinga.
In his post announcing his move, Madowo again shared links to his latest piece published by international media houses CNN and the Washington Post
