Sonko’s speech blunder that left Deputy President in laughter at Kasarani

    December 12, 2017

Deputy President William Ruto could not hold his laughter when Mik Mbuvi Sonko, Nairobi Governor presented his speech during the Jamhuri Day celebrations today.

The protocol in place dictated that the governor invite all the attendees including the VIPs before proceeding with the ceremony.

But mistakenly, Sonko failed to recognize First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s attendance, instead attributing her presence to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta. Although Mama Ngina was not present at the event.

His speech read; “You Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, Your Excellency First Lady Mama Ng’ina Kenyatta, Your Excellency William Ruto,”

Mama Ngina Kenyatta was once Kenya’s First Lady from 1963 to 1978 when Kenya’s first president Jomo Kenyatta died.

Noting the mistake, Mr. Ruto was left with no other option but to laugh.
