Raila Odinga’s former aide Miguna Miguna is back to the opposition fold like he never left. Miguna has been seen frequenting the NASA leader Raila Odinga’s Capitol Hill office in Upper Hill since the nullification of the August 8 polls and has held meetings with both Mr. Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka. Individuals close to Raila and some NASA supporters who admire the former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant’s integrity and the ability to articulate issues have for some time now been working on a way to bring Miguna on board to help with the opposition campaigns.
NASA supporters are confident that despite Miguna Miguna’s bitter fallout with his former boss some years ago and writing quite a sensational book – which Raila claimed was sponsored by the National Intelligence Service to hurt him – the two share the same ideologies and a history in the struggle for democracy in the country.
Just last week, Miguna Miguna officially joined the NASA’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) and spoke at Capitol Hill offices in Upper Hill justifying his move, that he identified with the NRM’s agenda and that President Uhuru did not win the October 26 repeat presidential poll. He added that NRM will not relent in their push to have Kenyans boycott products and services from select companies perceived to be in support of the Jubilee government.
“The exercise on October 26 was not an election…it was a selection. Uhuru did not win the elections,” stated Miguna.
Miguna Miguna later took to social media and declared that he had taken up a new role in NASA’s resistance movement. He tweeted that he had enlisted with the National Resistance Movement at the rank of a GENERAL in charge of operations.
About a year ago while appearing on Jeff Koinange Live talk show, Miguna Miguna who authored the book; Peeling Back the Mask, claimed that Raila Odinga can never be president of Kenya because he is a political joker adding that Raila Odinga and the entire Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) top leadership are not fit to be Kenya’s president.
Miguna Miguna is well known for his pride and an abrasive attitude and has of late been a vocal critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee government. He was once a Senior Adviser on coalition affairs to the NASA leader, Raila Odinga during the Grand Coalition government in which Mr. Odinga was the Prime Minister before they fell out and was unceremoniously tripped off his job.
Miguna’s ego was totally bruised after he was sacked and this led him to a journey of vengeance against Mr. Odinga, never sparing any kind words for his former boss and anyone that pledged loyalty to him. It is alleged that Miguna Miguna held this advisory job to the Prime Minister as his birthright and had little respect for everyone else including his boss, the Prime Minister. Miguna’s subordinates at the office of the Prime Minister and guests coming to see the Prime Minister quavered at his sight.
But the fall out a few years ago between Miguna and his former boss seems to be water under the bridge now. The former NASA leader aide has in the recent times come out strongly in support of his former boss, Raila Odinga. He asserted that the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate, won the August 8 General Election. According to Miguna, Raila defeated President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, based on the panic that the two leaders were displayed in the aftermath of the nullification of presidential results by the Supreme Court.
“Based on the unprecedented panic President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have exhibited, I BELIEVE THAT Raila Odinga won on August 8th,” read Miguna’s Twitter post on September 19, 2017.
