Federalism is the only solution for Kenya —Oparanya

By Viscount Francis K’Owuor,

October 9th, 2017.

Kakamega county Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has called for the introduction of a federal system of government to address grievances touching on negative ethnicity and electoral fraud.

Speaking in Kakamega, Oparanya said that transferring more authority, power, and resources to the counties to make them semi-autonomous was the only way that hitherto marginalized communities would feel a sense of belonging and pride as Kenyans. He added that through a federal system Kenyans will be able to govern themselves better.

” Following what happened during the General Election and the state of the country today, we need majimbo so that our votes count and leaders are not imposed on us”, he said.

Oparanya maintained that NASA would not participate in the repeat election unless electoral reforms are carried out by the IEBC and those responsible for the mess that saw the results of the presidential election nullified punished.  He also said that the plans by Jubilee to amend sections of the Election Act was in bad faith and would be rejected by NASA.

NASA has called for demonstrations every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to force out IEBC CEO Mr. Ezra Chiloba out of office.
