Roots party leader George Wajackoyah has alleged that there are plans to assassinate Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and himself.
Speaking on May 4, 2023, Wajackoyah, who contested unsuccessfully for the presidency in the August 9, 2022, elections, stated that he was not afraid of death. He pointed out that many people were killed during the late President Daniel Moi’s regime, and no one spoke for them.
Wajackoyah did not provide evidence to support his claim, but he named top politicians as those who are planning to harm them. However, for legal reasons, Nairobi News has not published the names of these politicians.
This statement comes shortly after a group of leaders affiliated with Azimio claimed that the government had withdrawn their security. Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Martha Karua are among the affected leaders, according to Nairobi News. Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo also alleged that his life was in danger after he was followed by unknown people.
In a tweet, the legislator claimed that the car following him had no records but allegedly operated from a police station. The government is yet to comment on these allegations.
The security of politicians has been a contentious issue in Kenya, with reports of assassinations and intimidation. Therefore, these allegations by Wajackoyah and other leaders raise concerns about the safety of politicians and the state of security in the country.
